Deterministic control loops for sensors, actuators, and time-critical hardware behavior.
Low-level drivers written against the actual board, not a generic reference design.
Modbus, CAN, serial, and wireless stacks integrated against real field requirements.
Firmware projects are usually better served by a partner who also designs and builds the hardware, rather than a firmware-only shop working from someone else's schematic.
The person who writes your firmware is reachable directly - no account manager relaying questions between firmware and hardware teams.
Control logic is written against the actual electrical characteristics of the board, not a generic reference platform.
Every board ships with firmware verified against a dedicated test fixture, not just a bench prototype.
Sensor signal conditioning, filtering, and low-noise analog design matched to your instrumentation.
Microcontroller selection, digital logic, and firmware architecture designed together.
RF layout, antenna matching, and signal integrity for wireless and high-speed digital designs, the core of Pelican's role as an RF and digital design engineering partner on mixed-signal programs.
Power architecture engineered for your deployment conditions like battery, solar, generator, or grid-tied.
Custom firmware services include:
Real-time or RTOS-based architecture matched to your control requirements and hardware constraints.
Low-level drivers written directly against your board's sensors, actuators, and communications hardware.
Firmware designed for over-the-air or field-programmable updates where fielded hardware is hard to access.
Industrial controller firmware work spans (box):
Control-loop logic for motor drives, sensors, and actuators
Fault detection, diagnostics, and safe-state handling
Communications stack integration (Modbus, CAN, and other industrial protocols)
Pelican writes firmware with hazardous-location design constraints in mind from the start.
A legacy microcontroller or toolchain is discontinued, and the firmware needs to be ported to currently available hardware while preserving existing behavior and interfaces.
Existing firmware is functionally sound but needs new sensor support, updated communications protocols, or modernized field-update capability without a full rewrite.
Our roots are in oil and gas, and that experience transfers. Pelican brings the same electronic design and manufacturing discipline to other regulated and demanding sectors.
Harsh-environment controllers, downhole sensor integration, and hazardous location (HazLoc) electronics for the Gulf Coast, Permian, and beyond.
Ruggedized embedded systems, secure telemetry, and reliable PCB assemblies built to withstand shock, vibration, and temperature extremes.
Precision instrumentation electronics, low-noise analog signal processing, and adherence to lifecycle management and traceability requirements.
Automated monitoring and control electronics for compliance, hygienic environments, and precise thermal management.
Custom motor drives, sensor interfaces, and IoT edge devices supporting legacy and modern industrial protocols such as Modbus and Ethernet/IP.
Have specific regulatory or environmental requirements? Send your spec sheet and an engineer will review it.
You reach the engineer writing your firmware, not a project coordinator relaying messages between you and the design team.
We are not a firmware shop that hands off hardware production. The team that writes the firmware also builds the board, in Lafayette, LA.
We design firmware and hardware together for heat, vibration, dust, and remote installations, not a lab bench.
Every board is checked against a dedicated test fixture before it leaves the shop, a manufacturing-quality practice that's easy to verify and hard to fake.
Hardware constraints, real-time requirements, communications protocols, and deployment environment.
Firmware architecture and hardware design proceed together, with test requirements built in from the first revision.
Firmware brought up and tested on real hardware against a purpose-built fixture before release.
Low-to-medium-volume production runs in-house, firmware flashed and verified on every unit.
Same engineering team handles firmware revisions for new features, protocol changes, or field issues.
Pelican Engineering is a registered professional engineering firm in the state of Louisiana, available for consultation in electronic product development and all aspects of electrical engineering design and manufacturing.
Launched as Palmer Engineering Firm, building our first electronics program on an embedded prototype for the oil and gas industry from a small shared facility.
Transitioned to an independent 18,000 sq ft facility in Lafayette, LA. Acquired full PCB assembly lines to support mass manufacturing.
Expanded operations into a new 85,000 sq ft building to meet growing production demands and further scale our turnkey capabilities.
Operating three full manufacturing lines, producing over 100,000 circuit boards annually as an industry-leading hardware partner.
